Please keep in mind that TotalFinder is an add-on that is loaded in Finder when running the TotalFinder app. It does not modify the Finder files on disk. TotalFinder is installed as a standalone application. But on startup, it changes the current instance of Finder running in memory. I call this process TotalFinder injection in Finder.

Due to the nature of how TotalFinder works, there is always a small risk that TotalFinder may break it with future Finder updates. Our entire team uses TotalFinder on a daily basis, so we spot issues very quickly. So far, Finder updates have generally made minor changes.
